Chapter 2
"Clow
Reed?" Sakura looked up in amazement as the ancient magician stood
towering above her, smiling benignly. She smiled back shyly and waved slightly.
He nodded to her.
"Ah, Sakura, you who are destined to be the mistress of the cards. How you
have grown since I saw you last!" Sakura looked confused. 'But, I've never
seen Clow-san before, not like this, so how could he know me?'
"Sakura, I wish to meet with you. I need to have the aid of my Clow Cards
for a short time, to complete a task I started when I was younger." Sakura
nodded slightly.
"Of course Clow-san, but I haven't captured them all, you know, not yet. A
heh heh heh... I'm trying my best though, and I'm sure I will have them all
soon." Sakura tried to smile disarmingly. For a minute a scowl crossed
Clow Reed's face. He appeared angry. She shrunk down. 'Hoe!'
"You have not captured them all yet?!?" Sakura whimpered.
"No, Clow-san, I'm sorry, but I am trying really hard, and I'm sure I'll
be able to catch them all soon..." The anger passed, or was suppressed,
and Clow Reed went back to smiling benignly.
"Alright. You will bring the cards you have captured so far to the park
near your dwelling, I believe you call it the Penguin Park?" Sakura
nodded.
"Very well. I will appear to you there tomorrow afternoon." With a
puff of smoke he vanished. Sakura sighed, and opened her eyes. The cards were
still floating around her, but seemed to be a little concerned. Sakura smiled
at them.
"Don't worry, I'm fine. Kero, I just saw Clow Reed!" Kero dropped his
video game control.
"What?" He flew over to her, ignoring the screams as his video game
persona was destroyed.
"Yeah, he appeared to me, it was like a vision or something. He wants to
borrow the cards for a little while to complete a task he hasn't finished
yet." Kero looked up at her.
"Are you sure it was him Sakura?" She nodded.
"Yup!" Kero nodded, and flew back to his game.
"Alright Sakura, but be careful. What?!? Game over! This is SO not
fair!"
----------------
"Tomoyo-chan, do you know where Li-kun is? I haven't seen him since
yesterday. I'm a little worried about him, he was acting weird." Sakura
sat down in her seat, and stared behind her at the empty desk.
"No, I haven't seen him either. He's probably just got a cold. I'm sure
he'll be fine tomorrow." Sakura nodded slowly.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. But still..."
----------------
After school Sakura, Tomoyo and Kero headed for the park. Sakura had told her
best friend about her little meeting with Clow-san. Tomoyo had insisted on
coming along to video tape this historic moment. Sakura and Kero were not
particularly surprised. Sakura was just thanking her lucky stars that she
didn't have to wear one of Tomoyo's battle costumes.
"Well, this is it, where Clow-san wanted to meet." Sakura sat down on
a bench and pulled out her cards. They waited patiently, and soon the sky began
to cloud over. Mist moved in, and they could hardly see each other. A spot in
the mist cleared, and slowly a form appeared. He towered above them, still smiling
as he had been in Sakura's vision.
"Clow-san!" Sakura smiled. Kero stared in shock, unsure of what he
should do.
"Master!" He landed and walked slowly towards his former master. Clow
Reed looked down.
"Ah, Cerberus, how are you doing?" Kero bobbed his head.
"I'm doing well Clow-sama." Clow Reed smiled again. Then he looked to
Sakura.
"Sakura, do you have my cards?" Sakura held up the cards. He nodded,
still smiling.
"Good, give them to me!" For a minute he appeared to be anxious, and
annoyed, but it passed.
"I mean, please, can I have them?" Sakura nodded, looking a little
bit uncertain, but hey, this was Clow Reed! She stood up, and walked over to
him slowly, holding out the cards to him. He reached for them and took them. As
soon as he had them, he began laughing, or rather cackling.
"Foolish foolish child! To fall for such an obvious ploy! But now the
cards, the cards that you have managed to collect that is, are mine!"
Sakura stared at him uncomprehendingly.
"But, Clow-san, why?" Kero flew up to his face.
"Yeah, why do you really want the cards?" Clow Reed laughed.
"You think I'm as stupid as those movie villains who give away their whole
plot and then get caught easy as pie? You wish. But, if you want, try to stop
me." Sakura pulled out her key.
"Oh key of Clow, power of magic, power of light! Surrender the wand, the
force ignite! Release!" The key grew into the wand, and she held it, ready
to release a card. Then she realized the problem.
"Clow-san took all my cards! What can I fight with?" Yet again the
figure before her cackled.
"Absolutely nothing!" He realised the Windy Card, and Sakura was
blown backwards into a big pine tree, although Windy seemed apologetic. She
slid to the ground, tears forming in her eyes. Clow Reed moved slowly forward.
Sakura pulled herself to her feet, and held the wand like a baseball bat.
Running forward she began to swing at him. With a wave of his hand the power
card was released and he threw the cardcaptor right back into the tree. She
slid to the bottom again, this time she just stared as he advanced, and called
the sword card out, holding the shining blade above her head. Kero flew
forward, as if to ram him, but a burst of energy from Clow Reed's hand blew him
away easily.
The guardian beast lay, stunned, at the bottom of a large poplar tree. Tomoyo
screamed, but everyone ignored her. Clow Reed was raising the sword above
Sakura, preparing to swing. She backed up, but she was already right against
the tree, and her wand lay on the ground meters away. Clow Reed smiled,
although less benignly.
"You are the last person who could stand against me. Now there is no one
to stop me." He raised the sword to its full height, and started to bring
it down. Sakura flinched.
"Stop." They both looked up. Standing at the edge of the clearing
around the Penguin Slide was Syaoron Li. He was dressed in his usual green
battle robes, but now Sakura could see more than any time before that his aura
surrounded him, making it look like a green mist was floating around him, like
loose green silk. He stood tall, pulling himself up to his full height. So fast
that it seemed like a blur he pulled his sword out from the sheath on his back.
"She's not the last."
